So I’ve been listening to this song non-stop. And I’ve been imagining how she’d be able to convey that emotion in a music video for a few days, and then I finally saw this.
Over all, it’s okay. It’s not perfect. (But then again, nobody’s perfect.) I loved the idea of having it set in a madhouse. It suits her, and it suits the way she sings this song. She’s got so much energy, and so many feelings, just poured through her words. And trust me, this song explains just about every step of my relationship, so I get it. Also, I love the hallway part of this. With so many temptations around her, it seems like she’s kind of lost on how to get back to where she was. Plus, visually, I believe it’s the best scene. The makeup choice, was actually really good. In the first scene, at the Alice In Wonderland-esque table she’s got strong makeup, hair and costuming, as to fit in with the crazy scene that’s going on beyond her lost-in-a-crowded-room beginning. In the hallway, the choice to give her light makeup allows for that same feeling in a different setting. With the choice to put beads or studs under her eyes in 2 or 3 of the other scenes, you begin to almost see them as tears as she sings, especially if you’d heard the song before. And the most important thing I love about this: Jessie J.
But the problems. I may be the only one, but when camera movements are so erratic as they are here, I get a little irritated with the camera man. Granted, the artistic sense was to make you feel as if you’re going crazy with her, but I just wanted to be able to see her clearly. Sound-wise, the quality is amazing, and I do like the talking as the camera pans into this haunted house in the opening, but I really did not like the way they chose to interrupt the song with the clock chiming, it seems very Nicki Minaj. As does her hair, now that I think about it.
But that’s just my opinion…
I am so glad that Jessie J has finally found herself at this place, though. Where she can produce music and videos, and make money, and be all that she deserves. <3
